12-23-06 No Time For Trains

My free time to work on the layout lately has been eaten up by various projects and obligations.  I am hoping to have more time to work on the layout towards the end of January.  I have worked on a few things since the last update.

I have written a new program to generate switch list.  A switch list is a print out that shows the engineer where to pick up specific cars and where to move them.  The program is set up to randomly pick a few freight cars and randomly select appropriate destination sidings.  I have not had a chance to operate the layout off the switch list yet.

When I installed the electrical system back in July, I did not have the Digitrax circuit board I mentioned in the electrical article on hand.  Just like the trouble I had getting the track, the circuit board ended up being back ordered.  It did eventually arrive.  I am going to need some time to install it.  I will need to take a section of the layout apart so I can mount and wire it to the underside of one of the new modules.  The board will also have to be configured.

I have also started on the grain elevator for the brewery.  It is made out of two Walther's ADM grain elevator kits.  The majority of the structure is complete.  I still need to add the sections that sit on top of the silos and some detail parts.  When it is finished, I will post an article on its construction.
