08-03-08 Smoothing the Ridge

I had to smooth out the depressions the plaster cloth formed when it was draped over the cardboard structure on the mountain ridge.

I had hoped my cardboard grid structure was tight enough so I would not have substantial height changes when I applied the plaster cloth.  Some of the peaks and valleys can be seen in this picture.  I applied Sculptamold around the rock face first.  I then applied it to the rest of the mountain ridge starting from the left side working from bottom to top in narrow columns.  I added extra to the valleys to raise them.

I added some more rocks in a couple areas before continuing with the Sculptamold layer.  I used a large amount of Sculptamold to cover the ridge.  Adding the layer of Sculptamold does increase the strength of the shell.  Next, I filled in the area between the ridge and track with a thin layer.  The gray area on the ridge in the picture is wet Sculptamold.  It can take several days to dry.

I can’t fill in the area between the tracks with Sculptamold until I make the foundation for the engine house.  So I guess this means I need to build the engine house next.
